May 10th: World Lupus Day

Lupus is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease that affects approximately 5 million people worldwide. Currently there is no cure, and only early diagnosis and expert care allow those who suffer from it to lead a normal life. One of its most common typologies is systemic lupus erythematosus, on which the European DoCTIS project focuses its efforts, along with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. For this reason, at DoCTIS we want to join World Lupus Day, which is celebrated every May 10.

World Lupus Federation, along with lupus-related organizations around the world, decided to create World Lupus Day in 2004 to educate the public about the symptoms and health effects of lupus.

This year, the global lupus community will unite for a day of advocacy, aiming to “Make Lupus Visible” through various events and actions. By shedding light on this often misunderstood illness, the aim is to educate and engage the world in the battle against lupus.

We encourage everyone who wants to give visibility to this disease to post information about World Lupus Day (May 10) on their social networks, using the hashtags #WorldLupusDay and #MakeLupusVisible. On the worldlupusday.org website there is a tool kit that will surely help you prepare a very attractive publication!

The DoCTIS project has received funding from the European Union’s H2020 reearch and innovation program under grant agreement 848028.
